Training
Obedience Classes
All-breed obedience classes are offered year round on Sundays and Wednesdays
in our large, fully matted indoor facility. Outdoor classes are
held during spring, summer and early fall. Outdoor Practice
rings are also available.
No reservation is needed and the training fee is $5 for a 45-minute class.
Beginning students should plan to attend the 11 AM class on Sunday. Our
training schedule includes training from
basic puppy obedience and socialization up through competitive Novice, Open,
and Utility training.
Obedience Drop-In Training
For individuals who are preparing for obedience competition and are
looking for a place to train on their own, we offer drop-in training every
Thursday from 10:00 am until 1:00 pm.
Agility
All-breed agility classes are offered on Monday and Tuesday nights year
round. Classes are held indoors from November through early May
and outdoors from late May through October. Contact Mike Kestner
to put your name on the waiting list for class openings.
Canine Good Citizenship
All-breed Canine Good Citizenship (CGC) classes are offered on
Friday evenings for
dogs 5 months and older. This is a 9-week basic dog obedience and socialization
class. Classes emphasize the fundamentals of appropriate canine behavior
such as heel, sit and down on command, and also tolerance for other dogs
and people. No prior training experience by owner or dog is required.
Puppy Classes
All-breed puppy classes are available for puppies between 8 weeks and 5
months on Friday nights. These
classes allow puppies to socialize with each other at a critical time
in their development. Desired behaviors are encouraged using positive
reinforcement techniques. It is a great opportunity to teach good
habits to your puppy before it develops undesirable ones.
Conformation
All-breed conformation training is held on Thursday nights at 7:45 PM. Training
is focused on preparation for competition in the conformation ring.
Correctionals
All-breed correctionals are held on the fourth
Friday of every month, except for November and December. Correctionals are
practice obedience trials for people preparing for obedience competition.
Rally
Rally is a relatively new sport that serves as a bridge between the CGC program
and obedience or agility competition. The dog and handler are taught to negotiate
through a course containing stations with signs indicating an exercise to be performed.
The focus is on dog and handler interaction, as well as fun. Rally classes are held
Friday nights at 8:00PM. These eight-week sessions currently
are slated for January, April and September and are targeted for beginners and experienced handlers.
Rally run-throughs are held on Sundays during the warm weather months for those who want additional practice. These are outdoors and, weather permitting, start in May through September.
Tracking
Our club holds a spring and fall TD/TDX combined test and a VST. Although we don't offer formal tracking lessons,
we have had many tracking enthusiasts and teachers who
work together on an informal basis. If you currently are a member and would like
to take part in a tracking class, please contact
Bill Childers for more information.
